Variety, the B.C. Children’s Charity, does many events each year to help special needs children.  One very popular event is the annual Boat for Hope event held in Vancouver, Victoria and Kelowna. This year, the Kelowna event was held on June 21, 2014.  The charity teams up with local skippers to take special needs children and their families on a pirate adventure on the high seas that concludes with a trip to “Treasure Island”.   As in past years, the Kelowna Yacht Club volunteered all of the skippers and the boats, and this year the new venue for docking and loading the passengers was the pier of the Kelowna Downtown Marina.  It was a huge success!  Carlene Field, Variety Fundraising Events & Campaign Coordinator, says “Please extend my thanks to the Downtown Marina team.  Everyone’s support throughout the day was much appreciated.  I kept hearing that this was the best Kelowna Boat for Hope yet, and I know those good vibes are largely attributed to such a fabulous new venue.”  Variety has already asked the Downtown Marina to participate again next year and our Westcorp team is looking forward to it!
