We always knew that our hotel group likes to live life in the fast lane and this year they were able to show their true colours. Westcorp congratulates the Matrix Hotel for being named the Official Hotel of the 2012 Edmonton Indy!
Over this past weekend, race fans gathered at the Edmonton City Centre Airport to take in three days of octane fuelled excitement as drivers from the Firestone Indy Lights Series, the Star MAZDA Championship, the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series and the IZOD IndyCar Series took to the track. Although the entire weekend was packed with action, the main highlight of the event was undoubtedly the victory achieved by Helio Castroneves in Sunday’s IZOD IndyCar Series race.
However, another highlight of our weekend at the races was when one of Westcorp’s own took to the track. Westcorp’s Commercial Leasing Manager, Jonathan Milroy had the unique opportunity to ride shotgun in an Indy car as it tore around the track at a speed of over 160mph! Described as possibly the fastest 40 seconds of his life, complete with hairpin turns and breakneck straight-aways, Jonathan managed to emerge relatively unscathed.
Jonathan enjoyed his experience so much that he’s considering sending a request to the folks at IZOD IndyCar to see if they will let him borrow the car for a road trip next weekend. We aren’t quite sure what their response will be, but we won’t hold our breath.
